India Successfully Test-Fires Canisterised Agni-Prime Ballistic Missile

The SFC and DRDO successfully conducted a flight test of the new-generation Agni-Prime ballistic missile from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, validating its dual redundant navigation systems.

The Missile Test

The Strategic Forces Command (SFC), in coordination with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), successfully test-fired the new-generation nuclear-capable ballistic missile 'Agni-Prime' on June 10, 2026. The test was conducted from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha and met all mission objectives flawlessly.

The Agni-Prime (Agni-P) represents a massive technological leap over the older Agni-1 and Agni-2 missiles. As a canisterised system, the missile is sealed in a container that serves as both a transport and launch receptacle. This drastically reduces the time required for launch preparation and allows for high mobility via road and rail networks, providing India with a highly robust and survivable second-strike capability.
