Amit Shah to Launch Land Port Management System (LPMS) on June 9

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) on June 9, 2026. The LPMS is a comprehensive digital platform designed to integrate and streamline operations at India's land ports—the designated crossing points along its international borders with neighboring countries.

Objectives

The system aims to significantly improve the efficiency, security, and transparency of cross-border trade and passenger movement. By digitizing processes that have traditionally been paper-based and fragmented across multiple agencies, the LPMS will provide a unified operational framework for cargo clearance, immigration checks, and customs processing at land border crossings.

Strategic Significance

India shares land borders with seven countries—Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Afghanistan—and land ports play a critical role in facilitating bilateral trade and people-to-people connectivity. The modernization of these facilities through digital infrastructure is expected to reduce processing times, minimize corruption, enhance security screening capabilities, and support the government's broader objectives of increasing trade with neighboring nations.
