Domestic LPG Cylinder Price Hiked by ₹29; Delhi Rate Now ₹942

The government has increased the price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cooking gas cylinder by ₹29 effective June 7, 2026, taking the Delhi rate to ₹942. This is the second hike in 2026, with cumulative increases reaching ₹89.

The price of a domestic 14.2-kg LPG cooking gas cylinder was increased by ₹29 across India, effective June 7, 2026. Following this revision, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi rose to ₹942, up from ₹913.

Reasons and Context

Government and industry sources attributed the price increase to rising global energy costs and supply disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which has significantly impacted international fuel benchmarks. This is the second domestic LPG price hike in 2026, following a ₹60 per cylinder increase on March 7, 2026, bringing the cumulative increase for the year to ₹89 per cylinder.

Impact on Consumers

The government has defended the hike by stating that Indian households still pay among the lowest prices for cooking gas globally. Officials noted that state-run oil marketing companies are still incurring significant under-recoveries, estimated at around ₹700 per cylinder, because the actual cost of supplying a cylinder has risen to over ₹1,600. Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) continue to receive a subsidy of ₹300 per refill for the first four refills annually, resulting in an effective price of ₹642 per cylinder for them.
