PM Narendra Modi Announces Development of Pahadpur as Model Solar Village

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that Pahadpur village will be developed as a Model Solar Village. The project aims to achieve 100% household solar coverage, integrating clean energy with rural livelihood development and ecological conservation.

Key Facts

  • Announcement: Prime Prime Minister Narendra Modi
  • Scheme Linkage: PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana
  • Key Target: 100% clean energy self-sufficiency for Pahadpur village
  • Household Benefit: Up to 300 units of free solar electricity per month
  • Agricultural Feature: Complete solarization of irrigation pumps
  • National Objective: Serve as a blueprint for rural green energy transition across India.

Rural Electrification via Clean Energy Transition

In a significant push toward rural renewable energy integration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the selection of Pahadpur village for development as a national Model Solar Village. The initiative, funded under the PM-Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana framework, aims to install solar rooftop systems on every household, commercial establishment, and public facility in the village, achieving 100% clean energy self-sufficiency.

Key Features of the Model Solar Village Initiative

The model solar village development incorporates several integrated rural modernization programs:

  • Rooftop Solar Installations: Every household in Pahadpur will receive subsidized rooftop solar units ranging from 1 kW to 3 kW, providing up to 300 units of free electricity per month, with surplus power sold back to the local grid.
  • Solar Micro-Grids: Community facilities, including schools, health centers, and panchayat offices, will be powered by centralized micro-grids equipped with battery storage systems to ensure uninterrupted power supply during non-sunny hours.
  • Agricultural Solarization: Irrigation pumps across the village's agricultural fields will be transitioned to solar-powered units, reducing reliance on diesel-powered engines and improving agricultural productivity.
  • Solar-powered Livelihoods: Financial support will be provided to rural entrepreneurs to set up solar-powered micro-enterprises, such as solar dryers, cold storage facilities, and cottage industry manufacturing units.

National Scaling and Strategic Vision

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) will oversee the implementation of the project, using Pahadpur as a blueprint for scaling solar villages across all states. The project aligns with India's international commitment to achieve 500 GW of non-fossil fuel electricity capacity by 2030, showing how decentralized, local energy generation can foster rural economic resilience, lower carbon footprints, and reduce the load on regional power distribution companies (DISCOMs).
