RBI Reports Strong Growth in Non-Food Bank Credit for March 2026

Non-food bank credit rose by 15.9% year-on-year in March 2026, up from 10.9% in the same period last year. RBI data confirms broad-based expansion across services, industry, and agriculture. Data from 41 scheduled commercial banks indicates a sharp increase in credit demand compared to 2025. The services sector recorded the highest growth at 19%, largely propelled by NBFCs, trade, and commercial real estate. Industrial credit rose by 15%, showing resilience in infrastructure, engineering, and metal production. Additionally, credit to agriculture grew by 15.7%, while personal loans saw a 16.2% rise, fueled by vehicle and gold-backed lending.
