The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is scheduled to release the official recruitment notification for the Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff (MTS) and Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) Examination, 2026, on June 30, 2026. This national-level exam invites applications from matriculate candidates for various General Central Service Group 'C' Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial posts across various ministries, departments, and offices of the Government of India.

Vacancy Details
The official count of vacancies for the 2026 recruitment cycle will be detailed in the notification on June 30, 2026. Historically, this drive fills between 8,000 to 12,000 vacancies nationwide. The vacancies are split into two cadres:
- Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS): Peon, Daftary, Jamadar, Chowkidar, Mali, Safaiwala, etc., in various central ministries and departments.
- Havaldar: Field positions in the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN).
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must fulfill the standard eligibility criteria specified below as of the crucial dates mentioned in the official notification:
- Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the Matriculation (Class 10) Examination or equivalent from a recognized Board.
- Age Limit (as of the defined cutoff date):
- For MTS and certain Havaldar posts: 18 to 25 Years
- For Havaldar in CBIC/CBN and specific MTS posts: 18 to 27 Years
- Age relaxation applies for reserved categories: OBC (+3 years), SC/ST (+5 years), PwBD (+10 years).
- Nationality: Must be a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal, a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, to settle permanently.
Application Fee
The application fee must be paid completely online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or Visa/Mastercard/RuPay cards:
- General, OBC, and EWS candidates: Rs. 100/-
- Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD, and Ex-Servicemen (ESM) categories: Exempted from payment of fee (Nil).
Selection Process
The selection methodology features two primary stages for MTS, and three stages for Havaldar applicants:
- Computer-Based Examination (CBE): Objective MCQ-based exam divided into two sessions. Session-I (Math & Reasoning) is qualifying and has no negative marking. Session-II (General Awareness & English) has a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer.
- Physical Efficiency Test (PET) / Physical Standard Test (PST): Mandatorily required only for the post of Havaldar. This includes a walking test (1600 meters in 15 minutes for males; 1 km in 20 minutes for females) and height/chest standards verification.
- Document Verification (DV): Checking of academic certificates, identity cards, and category credentials.
How to Apply
- Navigate to the official Staff Selection Commission website at ssc.gov.in.
- If you are a new user, complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) by providing basic identity and contact details to generate your registration number and password.
- Log in to the candidate portal using your OTR registration number and password.
- Find the active application link for "Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff and Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) Examination, 2026" under the dashboard.
- Input details regarding preferred exam centers, state preferences, and age relaxations.
- Upload your live photograph (captured through webcam in a well-lit area) and scanned signature in the specified size and quality.
- Complete online payment of the Rs. 100 fee (if applicable) and submit the form. Save a printed PDF copy for future reference.
