The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have issued the short notification for the engagement of Technicians under Centralized Employment Notice (CEN) No. 02/2026. This recruitment drive offers a total of 6,565 vacancies across various Indian Railway zones. The selection process will feature a computer-based examination followed by document verification. Vacancy Details
The 6,565 vacancies are split into two distinct pay levels and technical grades:
- Technician Grade 1 (Signal): 323 vacancies (Pay Level 5, Initial Pay Rs. 29,200/month)
- Technician Grade 3: 6,242 vacancies (Pay Level 2, Initial Pay Rs. 19,900/month)
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must fulfill the age, medical standards, and educational requirements listed below as of July 1, 2026:
- Educational Qualification:
- Technician Grade 1 (Signal): Bachelor’s degree in Science (B.Sc.) in Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, IT, or Instrumentation OR three-year Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in these engineering fields from a recognized institute.
- Technician Grade 3: Matriculation / Class 10 pass plus ITI certificate in the relevant trade from NCVT/SCVT OR Matriculation / Class 10 pass plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the relevant trade. For some specific posts, Class 12 pass with Physics and Mathematics (PCM) is accepted.
- Age Limit (as of July 1, 2026):
- Technician Grade 1 (Signal): 18 to 33 Years
- Technician Grade 3: 18 to 30 Years
- Age relaxation is applicable for reserved categories (SC/ST: +5 years, OBC: +3 years, PwBD: +10 years).
Application Fee
The fee must be deposited online through internet banking, credit cards, debit cards, or UPI. Part of this fee is refundable after attending the CBT exam:
- General, OBC, and EWS candidates: Rs. 500/- (Rs. 400 refundable after appearing in CBT)
- SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Female, and Transgender candidates: Rs. 250/- (Rs. 250 refundable after appearing in CBT)
Selection Process
The selection will follow a multi-stage process designed to test technical and cognitive abilities:
- Computer-Based Test (CBT): Multiple-choice examination. Details on negative marking (usually 1/3rd mark deduction for every wrong answer) and sectional weighting will be released in the detailed notification.
- Document Verification (DV): Successful candidates based on CBT merit will be called to verify their original educational credentials and matriculation details.
- Medical Examination: Standard medical tests to verify fitness categories (e.g., A-3, B-1, or B-2 visual acuity requirements depending on the trade).
How to Apply
- Go to the centralized RRB recruitment website at rrbapply.gov.in.
- Create an Account by providing your basic details (Name, Father’s Name, Mobile, Email, Aadhaar Number) and setting a password.
- Log in with your registered credentials and click on "Apply" under the active CEN 02/2026 recruitment.
- Select the specific RRB zone you wish to apply to and choose your preferred post categories (Grade 1 or Grade 3 trades).
- Fill in educational, contact, and bank account details (critical for fee refund processing).
- Upload a clear scanned color photograph (white background) and signature according to the specifications.
- Proceed to the online payment portal and submit the application fee. Download the final printed confirmation sheet.
